Winterize the right way with Winter Care! Winter can be tough on pool.
Algae and other problems can start even in cold weather, making spring
opening messy and expensive. Prevent these problems now by winterizing
your pool properly and using WinterCare closing products. WinterCare products
are designed to keep your pool water clean and clear all winter long.
Proper winterization also protects pool surfaces and equipment, and makes
spring start-up quick and easy. Keep in mind, proper winterization involves
more than just adding products. Follow the steps below to make sure you
pool is well protected through the cold weather months.
1. Balance the pool water.
Take a sample of your pool water to your local Guardex dealer for expert
advice on water balance. If needed, adjust the pH to 7.4 - 7.6 and make
sure the other balance factors are in their proper range.
2. Winter Cleaning
Brush all pool walls and bottom and vacuum if needed. Clean along the
waterline and around pool surfaces with an appropriate pool surface cleaner.
Also clean out the skimmer and hair and lint trap. Backwash your filter
and use a chemical cleaner to remove oils and grease and ensure proper
operation.
3. Add Winter Care products
Add Winter Shock to your pool at a rate of 1 lb per 10,000 gallons. Scatter
the product evenly over the pool surface. Winter Shock should dissolve
completely when added but use your pool brush to mix up any product that
settles to the bottom. If the pool water is already cold (below 60 degrees)
you should predissolve this product before adding to water. Predissolve
Winter Shock by adding 1 lb of shock to 2-3 gallons of water. Mix thoroughly
and then add evenly across pool surface. Add Winter Algaecide to the pool
at a rate of 1 pint per 10,000 gallons or 1 quart per 20,000 gallons.
Apply product around the edges of the pool. Use the pool pump to distribute
these products evenly throughout the water.
4. Prepare you equipment
Consult with your pool builder or local professional dealer about proper
winterization for your pool equipment. This may involve partial draining,
plugging lines, and equipment removal and storage. If you use antifreeze
to protect your pool lines or equipment be sure to use antifreeze approved
for pool use. Do not use automotive anti-freeze.
5. Cover the pool
A well designed cover will keep your pool protected and free from leaves,
dirt, and other debris during the winter months. Solid covers should be
free of holes and held in place securely by water tubes or cables. Add
about 2 inches of water to the top of the cover to help hold it in place.
Mesh covers may also be used but will allow rain and some material to
enter the pool during the winter. Apply an additional treatment of Winter
Shock and Winter Algaecide about halfway through the winter to help keep
the water clean and free from algae.
